Many Sierra ski resorts are again offering a learn to ski package this year. These usually include an all-day beginner lift ticket with lessons and gear rental such as skis, poles and boots for $20 per person which is a bargain, because that is about what it cost me in 1968 when I first began to ski the Sierras as a teenager. The Learn-to-Ski weekend is Saturday Dec. 7th and Sunday Dec 8th at Sugar Bowl, Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, Homewood Mountain Resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Mt. Rose, Diamond Peak and Boreal (where I learned to ski). Ski and ride students will receive special coupons for return visits. No reservations are required, but arrive early to get a spot!
